888ladies Get Bingo Advert Banned
888ladies have recently had an advert banned for being a tad bit misleading. It seems that they have fallen foul of the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) after being reported by a viewer, who went as far as issuing an official complaint. The ASA had the advert subsequently banned from broadcast.
The advert had come under scrutiny after it advertised a top prize of £5 million for its latest promotion, the Golden Ticket Promo. An anonymous viewer complained after considering that this top prize which was being advertised was virtually impossible to get.
The viewer claimed that it exaggerated the likely amount of winnings because the actual odds of winning £5 million were 1 in 25,778,699,578,994,555,700!!! Basically you would have better odds of being struck by lightning 3 times in a row and winning the lottery straight after!
These odds were so long for the jackpot that it was virtually ridiculous. Players would need to match all 24 numbers on their card in 24 calls! This has never been done and is close to being impossible.
The ASA agreed with the complainant and banned the advert on the grounds that it clearly broke CAP (Broadcast) TV Advertising Code rules. The advert was considered to be misleading and therefore not fit for television screens.
The idea of the Golden Ticket game from 888 Ladies is that a player would win the top prize of £5million if they matched the first 24 numbers in 24 calls. After that the prize money drops for every additional number that is drawn. At 40 balls the prize money remains at a constant £50,000 regardless of the number of additional balls drawn out.
Let’s hope that 888ladies learn from their cheeky ‘mistake’ and play fair on future promotions.
