Bingo Hall Opens its Doors once again
A bingo hall in Liverpool has been given a massive makeover after being burnt to the ground. The Toxeth Pavilion bingo hall has been given a three quarters of a million pounds refurbishment after being set fire in an indiscriminate attack by local yobs. The criminals got away with thousands of pounds before the arson attack on the former theatre.
The popular bingo hall will once again open its doors to bingo players in the New Year and owner Gary Armstrong is over the moon to once again be able to entertain local players. After years of dealing with burglaries and thefts, Gary Armstrong saw his worst nightmares realised when he got a phone call informing him of the arson attack on his bingo hall. He could hardly believe it when he arrived at the scene to find his business burnt and destroyed. The devastation was heart-wrenching. There was no need to destroy the bingo hall although the police believed that it was done by the burglars in order to cover their tracks.
Mr Armstrong has been running the bingo hall since 1993 and thought he had seen it all until burglars broke into the club on the 29th July and tried to steal from the fruit machines and the safe. When they failed to open the safe, they took what they could and set fire to the whole place. It took the fire brigade more than three hours to get the fire under control and extinguish it.
After the blaze, Gary Armstrong contemplated giving up and quitting. However, the community spirit and loyalty of the players at Toxeth kept him from doing so. This bingo hall is one of just two independent bingo halls left in the whole of Liverpool and it has a very warm feel to it. Players are regulars and the staff and players know each other by name. People seen to prefer that to the huge and impersonal bingo halls elsewhere and that is why the keep attending this bingo hall.
Now that more that £750,000 has been spent fixing and revamping the bingo hall, players will no doubt get an even better bingo experience. Along with brand new carpets, ceilings, walls and toilets, the bingo hall boasts brand new machines and bingo equipment. Pop down to Toxeth Bingo hall this New Year and get a taste of good old family bingo fun.
