About Spanish Stray Dogs
At Bingo Power we fully support Spanish Stray Dogs and their cause to give abandoned dogs and cats a hope in life to find happiness, well being, and to find a loving home. Abandoning animals is a huge problem, and it has been exacerbated by many Brits leaving the Spanish mainland and returning home leaving their pets behind to their own devices. By staying a voluntary organisation they guarantee that these animals will be given the best care and will not be put to sleep if they are not re-homed after a period of time, which is something that happens in privately owned dog shelters and killing stations.
Spanish Stray Dogs is an official registered organisation formed by Aimee Townsend which helps abandoned animals and promotes animal welfare. Spanish Stray Dogs helps re-home abandoned cats and dogs from Los Barrios (Cadiz, Spain) animal shelter, as well as the day to day running of the shelter, and assist in raising much needed funds to keep the shelter in the hands of volunteers. As well as this they promote good animal welfare and promote the importance of neutering pets.
Spanish Stray Dogs regularly publicises abandoned dogs on social media, and helps re-home dogs not only in the UK but also as far as northern Europe and even the USA by working closely with partnered organisation overseas. They also run media and Facebook campaigns to raise much needed funds for purchasing food and other items required for the shelter. Their good work also encompasses escorting dogs to and from vets, airports, other shelters and foster homes.
As part of the neutering campaign, Spanish Stray Digs has managed to negotiate special rates with local vets for this procedure to be done at a much reduced cost in an attempt to reduce the amount of future unwanted pets. Advice is also give to all potential owners regarding pet welfare, and home checks on potential adopters and foster owners are also carried out.
Currently it does not have an official website as yet but their Spanish Stray Dogs Facebook group has almost 3000 members and this has worked incredibly well for them. They has hosted 2 charity gala dinners, one in Estepona and the other in Gibraltar which raised in excess of 6,000 Euros for the shelter. Their good work has also helped them raise funds for the improvements to the roof of the kennels, food, medical expenses, and to send 40 ex-laboratory (cosmetic) beagles all the way to Los Angeles to be re-homed!
