Online Roulette

Roulette has by far the best odds of any casino game and is for many the most enjoyable. It can be quite expensive but very profitable. In a single spin of the Roulette the player can place a series of bets to maximise their odds of winning. Your game strategy (e.g. how many numbers you bet on, whether you bet big or small, whether you bet on a section of the wheel, or simply on red or black) is very important as it can make or break your bank balance in this game of pure adrenaline rush. But first let’s look at some background information about Roulette to get you familiar with the feel of the game.

A standard Roulette wheel has 37 numbers, 1 to 36 and zero. There are 18 red and 18 black numbers placed after each other.

Numbers are not in order but placed randomly, obviously there are 18 even and 18 odd numbers also placed one after each other around the wheel i.e. red odd, black even, red odd, black even.

Roulette Bets

Here is a useful list of some of the different types of bets you can place on Roulette. You don’t need to learn them all at once! A more detailed set of rules can be found in any of the online casinos recommended by Bingo Power.

Even Chance Bets

If you place a bet on the number being Red, Black, Odd or Even you will get paid even money.

Example: A £10 bet wins £10 plus your initial wager. Total £20.

If zero wins even chances lose half (Not all online casinos do this)

Dozen Bets

There are 3 Dozen Bets with 12 numbers in each.
If you bet on the 1st dozen you cover Nº 1 to 12
If you bet on the 2nd dozen you cover Nº 13 to 24
If you bet on the 3rd dozen you cover Nº 25 to 36

As there are 12 chances for you to win and 24 chances for you to lose this bet pays 2 to 1.

Example: A £10 bet wins £20 plus your initial wager. Total £30.

Column Bets

Column Bets also have 12 numbers in each column and work in the same way as Dozen Bets but horizontally.
1st column (1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34)
2nd column (2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35)
3rd column (3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36)

As in Dozen Bets, in Column Bets there are 12 chances for you to win and 24 chances for you to lose so it pays 2 to 1.

Example: A £10 bet wins £20 plus your initial wager. Total £30.

Straight Up Bets

Here a bet is placed on a single number to win. There is 1 chance of winning and 35 chances of losing so the best pays 35:1

Example: A £10 bet wins £350 plus your initial wager. Total £360.

Split Bets

This is when a bet in placed on 2 numbers which are next to each other on the table. Here there are 2 chances of winning and 34 chances of losing so the bet pays 17:1.
Example: A £10 bet wins £170 plus your initial wager. Total £180.

Street Bets

This is when you bet on 3 numbers on the layout. There are 3 chances of winning and 33 chances of losing so the bet pays 11:1.

Example: A £10 bet wins £110 plus your initial wager. Total £120.

Square Bets

Here the player bets on a block of 4 numbers on the table. There are 4 chances of winning and 32 chances of losing so the bet pays 8:1.

Example: A £10 bet wins £80 plus your initial wager. Total £90.

An easy way of knowing your odds of winning a particular bet is by dividing the chances of losing by the chances of winning.

The Roulette Zero

The 37th number, zero (0), also has odds of 35:1 but is on the wheel to give the casino a slight advantage over the player. Zero is a good bet all the same and with the same odds as any other number. In American Roulette, there is a double zero (00) which favours the online casino even further.

Table Maximums in Roulette

Table Maximums in Roulette are put in place to once again give the casino an advantage over the player. If there was no maximum the player could double their bet every time they lost until they won all their money back, which would defeat the object of having a casino. The table maximum will depend on the type of player. For beginners this is usually £1 minimum up to a maximum £100. High rollers and casino VIP’s are usually given £5 minimum up to £500 maximum, depending the chosen bet. A player can place as many chips on as many different bets as long as they keep within the maximum.

Example: £10 on Nº 29 (Straight Up), £10 on Nº 28 (Straight Up) and £10 on Nº28/29 Split. If either Nº28 or Nº29 come in the player would win 52 £10 chips = £520 plus your initial wager. Not bad for a £30 bet!
